Let's Talk Digital Consoles

True, there is really nothing new about digital consoles. They've been around since the late 80's.  However, the changes over the past several years are nothing less than amazing.  From the perspective of a tech, designer, installer and an A1 in a house of worship, there are very few downsides and the upsides are almost too many to list.  In this article, I'm going to touch on just a few of how I utilize digital consoles in house of worship.

Still the number of churches and schools that haven't made the jump is extremely high.  One of the main push-backs i hear is that they are 

 

The processing available in a lot of the digital consoles are simply amazingly easy to use.  In the following video clip, my vocalist had peaks in volume that stuck out.  A multiband compressor let me notch out the offending frequencies apply just the right amount of compression and before you know it, the vocal was smooth as silk. ( kind of hard to tell from this recording- it was done from a phone but in the house system, it sounded really nice!)
